Big picture
- There is no train station in Jávea. For longer trips you will usually combine a coach with a metro or tram, or book a transfer or taxi.
- Nearest major airports: Alicante–Elche (ALC) and Valencia (VLC).
Local movement inside Jávea
Urban bus
- Simple loop serving the Bus Station on Avenida Palmela, the Old Town, the Port and Arenal or Cala Blanca.
- Timetables change between summer and winter. Check the current sheet at the stop.
- Kid tip: fold buggies before boarding. Drivers may refuse open strollers when the bus is busy.
Taxis
- Radio Taxi Jávea covers town, nearby villages and airport runs.
- In July and August and during fiestas, waits can be long. Book the evening before for early flights.
- A local taxi app named 1TAXI connects to the fleet. It helps with ordering and tracking, but availability is still the limiting factor in peak weeks.
Ride hailing, including Uber
- Ride hailing does not operate inside Jávea. Do not plan on opening the app and getting a car in town.
- Alicante Airport and Alicante city have Uber coverage. You can usually request a ride on arrival, but do not assume you can get one back in Jávea later.
- Valencia has ride-hailing coverage in the metro area and at the airport. You will still need a coach or transfer between Jávea and Valencia.
- Availability shifts during big events, strikes and peak summer. Always keep a backup: a local taxi number or a pre-booked transfer.
- Kid tip: if you do use ride hailing from an airport, request child seats in-app or bring a compact booster. Licensed transfers are more reliable for confirmed seats.
Privateers
- Unlicensed drivers sometimes advertise airport or city runs for cash via groups or direct messages. They are not licensed, their insurance may not cover passengers, and child seats are not guaranteed. If stopped by police or overbooked, they simply will not show. Avoid them. Use licensed taxis or established transfer companies.
Intercity coaches
ALSA
- Frequent coaches to Alicante and Valencia, plus services to Dénia and Benidorm.
- For airports, plan Jávea to the city centre first, then use the city’s airport link.
Airport runs
Alicante–Elche Airport ALC
Public route
- Coach from Jávea to Alicante city.
- City to airport shuttle bus C-6 from the centre or the main rail station.
Typical total time: about 2 to 2.5 hours depending on the connection.
When to choose: solo travellers or couples with light bags.
Kid tip: keep a 30 to 45 minute buffer for the transfer.
Beniconnect
- Costa Connect Shuttle, shared coach with fixed pickup points around Jávea such as Arenal, Port or Pinosol areas.
- Private transfer, car or van, door to door. Request child seats when booking.
Typical time: about 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30 door to door.
When to choose: early or late flights, more luggage, fewer changes.
Licensed taxi or private transfer
- Fixed price quotes available. Easiest choice for odd hours.
Valencia Airport VLC
Public route
- Coach from Jávea to Valencia city.
- Metro lines 3 or 5 direct to the terminal.
Typical total time: about 2.5 to 3 hours.
When to choose: city visit plus flight, or if fares and times suit better than Alicante.
Private transfer or taxi
- Handy for dawn departures or heavy luggage.
Trains and trams that are actually useful
TRAM d’Alacant
- From Dénia south to Benidorm and Alicante. Scenic and simple, slower than the coach. From Jávea you start by coach to Dénia.
Cercanías from Gandía
- Commuter rail into Valencia. Useful if you are already up the coast. From Jávea you still begin with a coach.
Best routes to the big three
Madrid
- Fast and comfortable: coach Jávea to Valencia, then high speed train Valencia to Madrid. About 4.5 to 5.5 hours total.
- Also workable: coach Jávea to Alicante, then high speed train to Madrid. Similar total time.
- Cheapest with no changes: direct long distance coach Jávea to Madrid, about 6 to 7 hours.
Barcelona
- Sensible: coach Jávea to Valencia, then long distance train Euromed or Intercity to Barcelona Sants. About 6 to 7 hours total.
- Coach fallback: longer but straightforward if trains do not line up or prices spike.
Valencia city
- Direct coach to the central bus station, then metro or walking to most central areas. For the airport, switch to metro lines 3 or 5.
Common snags and how to avoid them
- Tight connections. Keep a 30 to 45 minute buffer between the coach and the airport link.
- Taxi drought. In high summer, assume a wait unless you pre-book.
- Seasonal timetable shifts. The local bus changes by season. Check the current sheet, not last year’s photo.
- Heat and no shade at some stops. Carry water in July to September.
- Buggies on intercity coaches. Fold and load them into the luggage hold before boarding.
Quick picks
- Early flight and luggage: pre-book a licensed local taxi or a Beniconnect private.
- Budget to ALC: Beniconnect shuttle or coach to Alicante and the C-6 bus to the terminal.
- Madrid fast and calm: coach to Valencia, then high speed train.
- Barcelona: coach to Valencia, then Euromed or Intercity.
- Within Jávea: local bus for daytime errands, taxis or the app for evenings, with pre-booking in summer.
